A campaign group said releasing the picture was 'justified'
Campaigners for a lower speed limit in the New Forest have released a graphic image of a dead pony trying to be roused by its foal.
The mare had its back broken when it was hit by a car near Brokenhurst. Landowners claim road accidents are killing three animals every two weeks.
The South Weirs Action Group for Safety (Swags) want the 40mph limit reduced to 30mph across the whole forest.
Hampshire County Council have agreed to investigate the issues raised.
There are about 3,000 ponies in the forest.
They are owned by landowners who have the right to allow their animals to roam.
Swags say they have seen 40 similar incidents on the same stretch of road in the last five years.
